Square’s VSAT Network uses a combination of satellite access methods for inbound and outbound transmission. The combination of different access schemes (FTDMA) and a unique patented Algorithm (LAPU header), guarantee the network’s security and the network’s immunity to interception and call malicious tracing.
Similar to military EW (Electronic Warfare) systems, the network access scheme has a frequency hopping mechanism that prevents non-network members to intercept data from the network. Square’s VSAT Network uses a combination of satellite access methods for inbound and outbound transmission. The combination of different access schemes and a unique patented In-bound access scheme (FTDMA), guarantee the network’s security and the network’s immunity to interception and call malicious tracing. In FTDMA, all VSAT transmits in randomly selected pool of frequencies in randomly selected time intervals decided by the proprietary algorithm within the VSAT IDU, so transmitted packets are distributed in random mode making it impossible to trap the whole transmission.
Proprietary Satellite Backbone Protocol (LAPU) in the data header encrypts the packet which can only be decrypt by the protocol negotiated device in the same VSAT network. This ensures that only devices with similar protocol can talk to each other in the same private network.
IP policies and Access List , within the intranet ensures that only the intended IP devices talks to each other. ie In a VSAT network IP address are unique; No VSAT can join in an Intranet with same IP address and only allowable IP address can talk each other.
Device Level Routing dictates that transmission and reception of data takes place only within the specific VSAT devices. This ensures extremely tight security for the network and provides the WAN a security and features of “Virtual Private Network”.
The frequency used in the technology is not used by any microwave radio products and above all Licensed Frequency ensure only this network is authorised to transmit.
Firewall : The system has a high level of access list and port level control policy which ensures the reliability of data transaction of a specific application within a defined network.
After the VSAT IDU at remote offices receives the transmission, it uses its proprietary technology for packeting and encapsulation prior to transmission to the destination that can’t be tracked by other reception apparatus. It does not follow normal TCP/IP packet size during transmission.
Because of it’s high security & reliability features, the technology is widely accepted in mission critical applications in Banks, Capital Market (National Stock Exchange of India), Postal Services (United States Postal Services), Government scada monitoring etc.
